Christine MacKinnon is a ceramic sculptor who works from a studio at Palm Beach, perched high on a cliff-top on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
Inspired by and sympathetic to the natural environment that surrounds her, each work is carefully constructed by hand using beautifully coloured clays and surface treatments.
Many of her works symbolise traps, reflecting the consequences of interfering with nature. As an ironic twist, these works include some elements of nature’s detritus.
Engaging and contemporary, these ceramic sculptures draw attention to the beauty of our natural world but are underwritten by a powerful narrative that commands its protection.
